St Patrick’s Day Walk
This year, St Patrick’s Day falls on a Saturday. It also falls on the
day that Ireland plays in the Six Nations. Therefore, in his wisdom, leader and
ardent rugby fan Brian Wickham has decided to reschedule the traditional
Slievenamon walk for Sunday 18 March. Details to follow.

Walk Report: C
Walk to Red Bank, 18 February. Leaders: John Browne
Eighteen C
walkers headed west to Red Bank for a delightful forest walk. Despite mist and
clouds that never quite lifted, spirits were high as they made their way along
the trail. The trees provided ample shelter. There was a certain Indiana Jones
quality to it, but most of the mud was concentrated on the space where the cars
were parked. The walk lasted 2.5 hours.

Photos from Thursday B and C Walks - 1 February 2018
Here's a selection of pics from the B and C walks on Thursday, 1 February, a glorious day. Though it was the first day of spring, there was a chill in the air, but everyone wrapped up warm and enjoyed the sunshine.
The first three pictures are from the B walk in the Comeraghs. Thanks to Michael Daly for these. And the second set of three is from the C walk in Ardmore. Thanks to Eibhlin Power for these. It's great to have such dedicated photographers in the club.

Fifteen hardy
souls decided to shake off the Christmas cobwebs and brave the elements in
Glenshelane Woods. We negotiated slippery bridges and limbo-danced under a
tree. At the halfway point, leader Norman Graham made the decision to turn back
and we went back the way we came. Despite almost incessant rain, the mood was
bright, and we all agreed that the walk was a great way to start the New Year.

Dungarvan Walkers
Head for the Beach
The C walk on
Sunday 7 January brought the Dungarvan walkers east, to the sandhills of
Tramore. The walk was to be led by Elizabeth Twohig, but she was unavailable,
so Eileen Barrett ably stepped into the breach. There were fifteen walkers and
the walk lasted 2.5 hours. We walked along the Burrows to the Sandhills, and
members got a chance to see the Backstrand, one of the hidden jewels of the
East Waterford Coast. The weather was cold and crisp, and the walk was an
invigorating experience for all.
Sympathies to Tom
Fitzgerald
Dungarvan
Hillwalking Club would like to extend its sympathies to Tom Fitzgerald and his
family on the sad loss of his wife, Anne. Anne gave great service to the club
over the years. She helped with the catering in the early years of the Comeragh
Crossing and also manned checkpoints on the Pieta House Darkness Into Light
walk She also went on a number of club holidays, so she was well known to the
members of the club. May she rest in peace.
